"The recent California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) scores reflect a ‘snapshot' in time of our progress towards mastering the Common Core State Standards, but they don’t tell the whole story,” said CUSD Superintendent Eric Andrew. “We are disaggregating these results and reviewing our other assessment data to pinpoint where we need to bolster our instructional practice and ensure that all of our students succeed.” |

Castlemont is off to a great start for 2016-17 and we want every child to have a great year. One component to your child’s success is to be in school every day. Research shows that children who are in school every day do better in school. The reason? When students miss a day of school, it actually puts them two days behind their classmates. Students who are absent an average of 15 days a year, miss a year’s worth of school by their senior year of high school. Student who are 10 minutes late every day, miss 30 hours of instruction in just one school year. |

Please join us Tuesday September 6th at 7:00 p.m. in the school Library for our first meeting of the school year. This meeting will be an opportunity to meet some of the Home and School Club (HSC) Committee members and get more information about what the HSC does for Castlemont School. There will be a raffle for attendees as well as some refreshments. We look forward to seeing you there! |

Schools back and it is time to save Box Tops for Castlemont. Last year we raised $1500.00 and we hope to beat that amount this year! Our first contest for the year is starting now and will end soon. The top three classes with the most Box Tops turned in per student will win a special prize for their entire class. Clip Box Tops and earn money for our school! |

If we can reduce the vehicle miles driven by parents to drop off/pick up children from school by only 1%, we would reduce vehicle travel by 300 million miles and save an estimated $50 million in fuel cost annually? Welcome back to a great 2016-2017 school year!!! I am so excited to be a part of the Castlemont family. My name is Cathy McAvoy, and I am the new Assistant Principal. I’ve been in education for twenty-seven years, and seventeen of those have been at the elementary level. Prior to joining the staff here at Castlemont, I was the District Literacy Coach, 5th-6th grade Language Arts and Social Studies teacher at Monroe Middle School, and 4th-5th grade teacher at Blackford. Welcome to the 2016-17 school year! We are so excited to begin the new year with an invitation to join us Thursday night August 25 from 5:00-6:30 PM, on the field for our annual Family Picnic social. Just bring your dinner and a blanket and join other Castlemont families and get reacquainted, while also meeting new parents and their children. It’s a family friendly way to get to know the Castlemont community, which is always a fun and supportive group. |
