Message from the Principal
This is the time of year when students get excited about moving up a grade. While we prepare them academically, we also want to support their social interaction with other children. It’s important that children have the opportunity to move their bodies and to run and play with their peers. Lunch recess is the largest block of time for students to get involved in games and have extended time to move, exercise and socialize. On occasion when you do visit your child during lunch we ask that you to have lunch in the designated eating area and then excuse yourself so that your child can be with his/her peers.
To all of our parents, continue to support your child’s healthy choices by asking them what they did during their recess. Did he/she play? What was the activity? Who did he/she play with? Recess is the ideal time for children to not only socialize and play, they also learn to work through conflicts and problem solve. It requires that they use their words, listen, and it gives them the opportunity to interact with students from other classes that they otherwise wouldn’t get to know. The social and physical advantage will be an added benefit to supporting the whole child, which is vital for their future.
