Castlemont Elementary School

Principal's January Message

Ms. Prindle shares Castlemont news and events.

Hello Castlemont Families,

I hope you are all well and keeping warm. We are keeping busy here at Castlemont with many events that I would like to share with you.

Tonight you will be receiving a message via ParentSquare requesting that you take part in our parent survey. Your input is extremely valuable to us as a school and as a district. I hope you will take a few minutes to share your thoughts.

Tomorrow is our annual new family tour day. We will be hosting two campus tours/informational presentations, one at 9:00am and one at 3:00pm. Tours will start in our multi-use room on Castlemont Avenue.  Please share this information with family and friends who have students who will be in TK or Kindergarten next year.

We are very fortunate to be working again this year with renowned Stanford math researchers Jo Boaler and Cathy Williams. This year, the Stanford team will be conducting research regarding math and flexible thinking through a six-week math intervention program. Students who participate in after school Campbell Care and who meet defined criteria have been invited to participate.

An event for all of our students is our upcoming Scholastic Book Fair, February 5th-9th. Students will come to shop during their normal class visits that week. Every student will be able to choose one free book (for $5 or less) during their visit. The fair will also be open for an extra hour after school on Wednesday 2/7 and Friday 2/9. We are in need of adults to volunteer their time to help with this event. If you are available, please contact Mandy Henry ahenry [at] campbellusd.org

Enjoy a short stack for a tall cause!  Buy your tickets now for the Applebee’s Flapjack Fundraiser Breakfast on Saturday, February 10th from 8-10 AM. Bring your family, friends, and neighbors to get served by your very own teachers!  Pre-order Tickets are only $12.00 each and will not be sold the day of the event. This is a private Castlemont Family & Friends Event, and only 250 tickets will be sold, so get them early! Each ticket includes pancakes, bacon, and beverages.  100% of the proceeds from this event will go to the classroom! Please see this flyer for more information.

Coming up on March 21st, we will be holding our third annual Math Festival.  This year, we are partnering with Monroe Middle School and using their larger facility to host this family event. If you have come in past years, you know how interactive and fun this is for our students and their adults. More information will be coming out soon.

A bit further out, our annual fabulous Castlemont Talent Show will be on April 22nd. If your child would like to try-out, they must first get a permission slip from their teacher for you to fill out.  Permission slips are due by January 26th. Try-outs for Kindergarten, 2nd, and 4th grades will be on February 8th. Try-outs for 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade will be on February 9th.

To round out this full list of plans, I would like to share how proud we are of our students who have taken ownership of their own lunch activities.  One of our 4th graders has started a Comic Club during lunch, where he is teaching his peers how to draw.  Also, a group of 5th graders are currently spending their lunchtimes preparing the re-introduction of soccer to 5th grade lunch recess, including a safety video they are creating.  Yet another 5th grader is helping lead a lunchtime chess club. We appreciate each of these students for exemplifying our Profile of a Graduate competencies of Innovation, Collaboration, Critical Thinking and Self-Direction!

As always, I encourage you to reach out to me if you have any questions or ideas-- kprindle [at] campbellusd.org.  I look forward to see you at one or many of our upcoming events.

Yours sincerely,

Kristen
