Hello Castlemont Families,

With just eight weeks left in the school year, we still have plenty to do!

As we return to a more normal routine, our state testing requirements also return for our 3rd - 5th grade students. Our testing schedule starts on Tuesday, April 26th. Testing will take place in the morning.

We still have time for some fun too-- I hope that you will join us for our Family Math Night and our upcoming Jog-a-thon!  Family Math Night is next Wednesday, April 20th from 6:00-7:30pm in our multi-use room.  Learning! Games! Prizes! Our space is limited to 30 families, so sign up as soon as you can. Here is the link to the flyer that contains the schedule for the evening and the QR code to register.

A long-running Castlemont tradition is returning this year -- our Home and School Club sponsored Jog-a-thon will be held on Friday, May 27th. I am happy to announce that Alondra J. is this year's t-shirt design contest winner.  Her beautiful artwork will be featured on the Jog-a-thon t-shirt that every student receives.  Parents are welcome to volunteer and to attend (Because this is a school-time event, all adults must show an ID and proof of vaccination when entering campus.)

I hope to see you at one or both of our upcoming events!

~Kristen

Castlemont Home and School Club is seeking nominations for the 2022-2023 Board of Directors.  There are three openings:  VP Fundraising, Financial Secretary and Secretary.  Terms are two years.  If you are interested in any of these roles, or know someone who might be interested, please complete the form below by April 12, 2022.
Nominations of other people are not binding and they will not be automatically on the ballot, but it does give us an opportunity to reach out and have a conversation with them.  Elections will be held in April'22.

A full description of each role can be found at:
https://castlemonthsc.weebly.com/board-members.html

Key highlights of each role include:
1.  VP Fundraising:  Responsible for fundraising activities (coordinates big school wide fundraisers such as Charleston Wrap, Double Good Popcorn, etc; identifies dates for community fundraisers like Kona Ice and/or restaurant dine-ins; and is responsible for overseeing coordinators planning big events like Jog-a-Thon and Fall Family Festival)
2.  Financial Secretary: Disburse funds and coordinate with Treasurer on key financial activities
3.  Secretary:  Attend meetings, take meeting minutes, publish minutes to HSC members and help with other communication as needed.
Note: The incumbents for these roles will not have children at Castlemont next year so we need new parents to fill these vacancies.

We especially need a Financial Secretary since all checks must be signed by both the Treasurer and Financial Secretary.

If you have questions about any of these roles please reach out to castlemont.hsc.bod [at] gmail.com and we will be happy to give you more information.

Heartfelt thanks to our Castlemont Community for supporting the Kindness Critters Fundraiser.  We sold over 900 Critters throughout the fundraiser. The proceeds from the sales benefitted the Ronald McDonald House at Stanford by allowing the Student Leadership Team to make 100 Toiletry Care Kits and about 100 Snack Bags to help the families that stay at the House. In addition, we were able to make a $800 monetary donation to the RMH at Stanford.  We were ecstatic with the overwhelming success of this fundraiser and are grateful for the spread of kindness and generosity of our families.  For more information about the Ronald McDonald House, visit https://rmhcbayarea.org/. Again, thank you for your support!

Hello Castlemont Families,

It's hard to believe that we have only 66 more school days left this year! Here is the latest news and event information from around campus:

  • On February 4th, we held a dedication for our memorial tree and plaque for our student Kekoa Pagan. Our fifth grade students painted rocks in honor of their friend and classmate and then placed them around the base of his tree.

  • Breakfast is coming!  We are finalizing plans with our Child Nutrition department to provide breakfast to any student who wants it. It will be free of charge, just as it is for our lunch program. Breakfast will be served during our morning recess. We expect our morning meal program to be up and running in the next few weeks.

  • I am happy to announce that we have two assemblies planned during March and April. I do not want to ruin the surprise, but I will share that both events will be held outdoors and will be for all students.

  • We have a new face in our front office. Please welcome Robert Ortiz, our health and front office aide, taking over for Bibiana Murillo, who has moved to our administrative assistant position.  Please contact Robert directly for attendance, COVID test results, and student health-related matters.  His email is rortiz [at] campbellusd.org

  • Upcoming Testing: We have ELPAC testing for our English Learner students starting on March 14th.  SBAC (state standardized testing) will begin on April 18th. We will complete make-up tests by May 27th.

  • Our Home and School Club sponsored Jogathon is returning this year on May 27th! Much more information to come.

  • Our focal character trait for March is perseverance. Perseverance is defined as "the ability to work through situations even when there are obstacles or challenges in the way." Please ask your child what they are learning about perseverance and how they can apply this character trait.

As always, thank you for all you do to support our school!

Yours sincerely,

Kristen

The Student Leadership Team is celebrating Random Acts of Kindness Month by selling Kindness Critters on February 4th, 11th, and 18th before and after school at the front Castlemont gate and at the Payne Parking Lot gate. They only cost $2 each and you can collect them or give them to others to spread acts of kindness. The money raised from this fundraiser will benefit the Ronald McDonald House at Stanford. This bay area charity provides communities of support, access to medical care, and the healing power of family and home for critically ill children. The SLT will be using the proceeds to buy and make toiletry care kits to donate to the Ronald McDonald House at Stanford.  These kits will help to provide comfort for the families that stay at the House.

Thanks for your support, and we know the kindness of our community will help the families at the Ronald McDonald House as they face the medical uncertainty and financial stress of caring for their children. Let’s help them embrace life and healing with a sense of hope, courage and joy.

For more information about the Ronald McDonald Bay Area Charity, visit https://rmhcbayarea.org/.

Keeping our children safe is our number one priority.  Please read these important updates and reminders regarding vehicle drop-off and pick-up areas.

Payne Avenue

Starting Monday, January 31st, parking on Payne Ave adjacent to our kindergarten playground and staff parking lot will become a student vehicle drop-off area.  Safely cones will mark the drop-off area where no parking or waiting will be allowed.  To keep traffic moving safely, please:

  • Have your child(ren)'s belongings ready for them to exit the car.

  • Please have masks ready.

  • If you walk your child onto campus, park outside of the drop-off area. Do not block our neighbors' driveways or the crosswalk.  Keep in mind that parking will be more limited with the drop-off area in place.

  • The parking lot on Payne Ave. is for staff only.

  • Pull safely to the curb to drop off your child.  Numerous adults have been letting children out of cars in the middle of the street.  This is simply unsafe.

  • Be courteous to our staff.  We are working to keep our students safe.

Castlemont Ave Parking Lot Drive-Thru

This is a safe and convenient place to drop-off and pick-up your children.  We ask the following:

  • Do not park at the curb of the drive-thru to wait for your student.  This causes an unsafe back-up onto Castlemont Avenue.

  • If you arrive early, please park on a nearby street and drive through once the student gates are open before and after school.

  • Do not ask your child to cross the parking lot to meet you at your car. If you have found a parking spot in this lot, please exit your car and escort your child back to your vehicle.

  • Be courteous to our staff.  We are working to keep our students safe.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
