We love our pets, however, they are not allowed on campus.  We also ask that pets not be left unattended (tied up to the fence), as this can be frightening to some of our younger children.

Please leave your pets at home when you bring your children to school and pick them up after school.  Castlemont thanks you for your cooperation!

After students are dismissed from class, our campus gates are now closing at 2:45 (1:45 on Wednesdays). We are keeping the campus secure for our Campbell Care After School Program. We will reopen the gate near the Payne loading/unloading zone after 6:00 pm once Campbell Care is closed. After you have picked up your child, please exit the campus by 2:45. Thank you.

Castlemont students have the opportunity to participate in our school-wide Halloween Parade on Wednesday, October 31, at 8:30 am.

Please keep the following items at home: full face masks, swords, guns or other weapons (even if they are part of the costume) and save face makeup and hair color for your evening celebrations.

Students are encouraged to come to school ready for the parade with an appropriate costume and regular clothing on underneath.  After the parade, children will remove their costumes and regular instruction will begin.

Parents who would like to view the parade can do so from the blacktop area. So, bring your cameras and/or video recorders and enjoy the show!

boy sleeping

Lack of sleep isn't just a problem for busy adults. Kids of all ages are not getting an adequate amount of sleep, affecting both their development and behavior. The National Sleep Foundation reports that 25 percent of infants, toddlers and preschoolers are sleepy during the day, and 30 percent of school-aged kids have trouble getting up in the morning. Establishing soothing bedtime routines helps keep young children from becoming part of these statistics.

Bedtime routines play an important role in young kids. These nightly rituals help ease separation anxiety that sometimes occurs in little ones. Certain activities, such as a soothing bath or nightly story, also help children relax for bed. Stimulating activities -- including watching television or playing video games -- aren't effective or wise bedtime routines. In fact, they are detrimental to sleep. Kids with televisions in their rooms go to bed each night about 20 minutes later, according to Laurie Weinreb-Welch, MPH, CHES, a Pennsylvania State University Extension educator. This adds up to more than two hours of lost sleep a week, which is unlikely to be made up.
