As we approach our Thanksgiving break, Castlemont's HSC wanted to say a huge thank you to our amazing community for your support and generous donations! So far, for the 2019-2020 school year we have raised approximately $25,000, all of which goes directly back to our students! We've used this money to send our students to field trips to the Campbell Heritage Theater, Happy Hollow, a pumpkin patch, and Santa Teresa Park. (And have additional field trips planned in the upcoming weeks like Mary Poppins, Campbell Historical Museum, Youth Science Institute, and the Tech Museum!) In addition, we've been able to host some great school-wide assemblies, like the Magic Circus, which included a mime who acted out various songs and skits from around the world.
In the coming months, keep your eyes open for future fundraisers and more ways to be involved. In addition to providing more field trips and assembles for our children, your donations, will also help with continuing to directly support our library, our librarian, and our classrooms. Please join us for our January 7 HSC meeting to hear more about HSC, ways to get involved, and how your donations are directly benefiting our students.

The deadline has been extended to Friday, November 22 for parents to participate in our school's Thoughtexchange. Add your voice to our planning process today.

We believe that working closely with our community is essential to meeting the needs of our students. As part of our annual planning, we want to understand what is important to you for your school and the District. One way we do that is through Thoughtexchange—an online tool that allows us to learn the thoughts and priorities of the people affected by our decisions.

Share your Thoughts by November 22!
Please join in the Parent/Community conversation about your child's school and district.
Por favor únase a la conversación de los padres/la comunidad sobre la escuela y el distrito de su hijo.

It is an easy 3-step process:
  1.  Share – answer open-ended questions about education in our schools
  2.  Star – review and ideas from other stakeholders
  3.  Discover – learn what is important to the community as a whole

We are committed to making sure our students are educated to their highest potential, and we rely on your feedback and input to help guide that direction. That is why we are asking for your participation in an online community conversation about what we're doing well and areas in which we can improve.

The flu virus and other respiratory “bugs” are most common during the fall and winter. Health professionals recommend several effective precautions to help slow the spread of germs that cause respiratory (nose, throat, and lungs) illnesses, like the flu.

  1. Get a flu vaccine each year.
  2. Avoid contact with people who are sick.
  3. Cover coughs and sneezes.
  4. Wash hands frequently.
  5. Get plenty of rest.

If your child does become ill, please report the absence by calling 408-341-7047.

If your child does not have healthcare insurance, please contact our Community Liaison, Irama Mendoza, for information about no-cost or low-cost insurance program options. To reach Irama, call 408-364-4233 X 4354 or email imendoza [at] campbellusd.org.

Dear Castlemont Families and Friends,

Reflecting upon the first eleven weeks of the school year, I am left with a feeling of profound gratitude.  Our school is a special place filled with wonderful children, kind and generous families, and the most dedicated staff I have ever seen.  The beginning of the school year is always a long, sometimes tiring push, but the rewards of our collective work for our children are great.

Every Castlemont event is a new experience to me.  The 80’s Dance, complete with side ponies, conga lines, and costumes was a blast.  The Fall Family Festival was an example of fantastic organization and planning leading to fun for our entire community.  We had representation from families, staff, community members, and high school student volunteers. Another Castlemont staple, Tamale Tuesdays, (soon to be Tamale Thursdays) is always the best way to pick up dinner while supporting our school.  Last week, our Halloween Parade was well- attended by parents, and our students were overjoyed to show off their costumes. I am tremendously grateful to all of you who have made each of these well-organized events possible.

As we move forward, please keep in mind that your opinions and thoughts are important to us. You recently received an email that gave you a link to ThoughtExchange.  I ask that you take 5-10 minutes to share your thoughts in this important survey by 11/15/19. Here is the link:

We will all soon be enjoying our three-day Veterans Day weekend and our week-long Thanksgiving break-- some precious time for all of us to recharge, reconnect, and hopefully enjoy a sense of gratitude. Enjoy the time with your family!

Sincerely yours,

Kristen Kimoto Prindle
